POSTPOSITION TEG AND THE REASONS OF IT’S VARIATION IN CHAGATAY TURKISH

Abstract

Postpositions are functional structures that haven’t any meanings when they are used alone. Postpositions form wordgroups by merging a noun and these wordgroups establish ties with various meanings with other word and wordgroups. In enclitic structures, they merge the word before them without stress. In this article, variations of “teg” in Chagatay Turkish and their reflections on written language are discussed. In the research, it is based on the examples identified from discussion of Yakînî’s “Ok Yaynın?g Münâzarası”. Besides, the postposition above-mentioned is taken into consideration about not only its history, but also its usage in contemporary Turkish dialects. Also, findings in the work of Yakînî are compared about similar phonetic change and its frequence of usage in Harezm Turkish and pre-classical Chagatay Turkish. Phonetic changes in consonants of postposition of “teg” (-dek, -deg, -dek,…) are ground on, especially, its frequence of usage , by researchers. As a result of this study, in Yakînî’s works, the variations of preposition of “teg” arise from systematic consonances are determined. The postposition of “teg” is being used as particle form in contemporary Turkish dialects as well. In this study, by being inspired form usages of the postposition above-mentioned in Harezm Turkish and pre-classical Chagatay Turkish, the effect of colloquial language on literary language is evaluated as well.
