A DUE DILIGENCE STUDY BASED ON LEARNİNG TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE TROUGH TELEVISION: IRAN CASE

Abstract

Although the textbooks which are essential materials for the education have lost their importance nowadays, technological developments has enforced the use of technological materials appealing to eye and ear. One of these technological materials is the television. In this context, the purpose of the research is to reveal whether there is an effect of Turkish television channels on Turkish as a foreign language teaching in Iran or not. The students who are learning Turkish as a foreign language in Yunus Emre Institute Turkish Culture Center in Iran 2015-2016 academic year has been chosen as the target population of the study. And the sample consists of B and C level Turkish learners in the same institution. The data of the research was obtained from the personal information and semi-structured interview forms which were prepared by the researchers. At the end of the study, it was seen that the students were aware of the benefits provided with watching television series and. It was also observed that they enrolled on B1-B2 and C1 levels only by watching television. In addition to that, it was identified that 92.72's% of the students thought that watching Turkish channels had positive impact on their listening and speaking skills. Besides, 50.10% of the students’ watching Turkish channels for learning Turkish is another important fact figured out from the research. According to these results, it is possible to say that watching Turkish channels in Iran contributes to learn Turkish.
