EXCLAMATIONS IN ANATOLIAN DIALECTS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

Abstract

The aim of this study is to figure out the exclamations and their functions in Anatolian dialects. For this purpose, some works about Anatolian dialects were selected and the exclamations and words functioning as exclamation in the works were obtained by survey method. In the selection of works, Anatolian dialects classification was taken account. The main groups in the classification and certain dialects in their sub-groups took place in the study. Source documents on Eastern group dialects (Diyarbakır, Erzurum, Kars, Urfa, Keban, Baskil, Ağın, and Uşhum village in Yusufeli district in Artvin), Northeastern group dialects (Rize, compilation from northeastern cities) and Western group dialects (Adıyaman, Afyon, Bartın, Kütahya, Malatya, Ordu, Uşak) were selected as reference materials. The terms dialect and Anatolian dialects and exclamations comprise the main part of the study. The exclamations in the selected sentence were first evaluated in terms of their phonology and functions in Anatolian dialects. Then, the states of the exclamations in Eastern, Northeastern and Western groups were presented as tables, in which the exclamations changing with written language were included. The exclamations exhibiting phonetic similarities and changes were also included in the tables.Finally, the determined exclamations, exhibiting similarities and changes, were evaluated in Eastern, Northeastern and Western group dialects and then, evaluated for their phonetic and functional differences in the written language.
