Abstract

Tales; may seem as simple structures in all folk literatures of the world, in fact they feed children's spiritual world, teach them social values and try to prepare them to society. This study discusses the image ‘giant’ comparatively in Turkish and Tunisian folk tales and indicates similar and dissimilar aspects them. Firstly, the image 'giant' will be explained through history, its place in many different literatures and its impact on cultural codes will be studied too. By talking about a giant in various forms and shapes, a 'giant' image will be generated in the mind of the readers. We are going to highlight that; those described in the tales, although incompatible with reason and logic, they are important for the child's adaptation to society , supporting his cultural sense and teaches him the sense of right and wrong from the aspect of the society.
