Abstract

Criticism of text tries to find out how the text in a transcript, which is written by an author, is established by making use of a set of criteria and methods. A lot of factors like intertextual relations, phases a text go through after it is written, condition of transcripts, prevalence of the text cause differences to some degree in the way of implementation of text criticism. Investigating antique era texts that may have centuries old difference between copies and parts of the text, and/or critiquing the texts that have copies replicated in every three or five years needs different point of views. While in a text that its author copy or copies, which can be associated with its author’s transcript, can be found, critique is done by basing on this text; it is necessary to establish the text once again by evaluation and comparing all copies in case of the absence of a copy, which is associated with author’s transcript. Despite a lot of differences related to the implementation of the method some criteria remain constant. Rhythm, rhyme, figures of speech, propositions, sentence structure, semantics and coherence of the text, language properties of the period, author’s vocabulary, tone and mindset, and intertextual relations have a role in the evaluation of parts of the text.In this paper, some of the readings chosen from a doctorate study “Fuzûlî’s Turkish Divan” are discussed with their reasons.
