As it is often stated that language is culture and culture is language, the role of culture has been extended in foreign language learning for effective language teaching. The primary aim of foreign language teaching is to enable learners to communicate with people coming from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. To enhance the cultural awareness of the students, intercultural communication training should be an integral part of language teaching. Integrating intercultural competence components into language learning activities may actually make them more interesting and appealing, and help developing students’ linguistic abilities and awareness of foreign language courses.The aim of Korean Language teaching is to build communication skills needed for students’ interaction with the Koreans. Enhancing the Korean language curriculum with the cultural aspects makes Korean learning more sense and effective and much easier for learners. Korean language learners should acquire the ability to recognize cultural differences and similarities of Turkish culture and Korean culture and behave properly in the given situation and to communicate clearly and effectively. From this point of view, role of teacher and teaching materials should be taken in consideration. Especially teachers and curriculum designers need to be aware of increasing importance of intercultural competence in Korean language teaching. This study firstly reviews and summarizes the literature on intercultural competence and secondly emphasize the importance of intercutural competence in order to enable Korean language learners to communicate in Korean effectively. },author={Pınar ALTUNDAĞ},year={2017},journal={International Journal of Language Academy}}
