FIELD OF TEACHING TURKISH TO FOREIGNERS BASED ON DIFFERENT VARIABLES

Abstract

Language teaching, especially the teaching of Turkish as a foreign language, has become a popular topic in recent years. Studies on how to teach Turkish and how to make the success of the process better have great importance. Completion of studies in this field to which missing aspects and required completion of further studies to which missing directions are to be emphasized topics. The aim of this study is to classify the academic studies (books, thesis, articles, papers) published between the years 1923-2017 in the field of Turkish teaching to foreigners, according to different variables (target group, subjects and years). In this respect, master and doctoral theses, articles, printed books and notifications about the subject were investigated. The study was designed into qualitative research method and document review technique was used. Firstly, all the researches, on Turkish teaching to foreigners, have been tried to be reached. These studies have been classified as master and doctoral dissertations, articles, books and papers. At the next stage, these studies were classified according to the target group, the subjects and the years they were made. Percentage and frequency results were used to present the data. As a result of the study, a total of 1073 academic studies were carried out, including 365 books, 235 theses, 270 papers and 203 papers in the field of teaching Turkish to foreigners. 498 of the studies on classification according to their subjects were on 11 separate topics; 575 were written on general issues. It was determined that 95 of the studies were belong to the years between 1923-1990; 229 to 1991-2000; 468 to 2001-2010; and 279 were written between the years 2010-2017. And 27 of the 1073 studies were on bilingual Turkish children; 48 are on Turkish nobles; 153 were written for those who learned Turkish as a second language (foreigners directly selected as the target group). The target groups of 845 studies were general.
