Abstract

Hartmann von Aue's Erec is regarded as the first knight novel written in German. Reflecting the Classical middle-high German Literature period and dated between 1180 and 1300 the Knight poetry imitates in terms of its form the French Literature in 12. Century. And handles in terms of its topics King Arthur. That’s why this works are also called Artus novel. The knights, who are the heroes of Artus novels, need to reach an ideal adventure and adoration according to the event fiction. The relationship between these two elements, that is, the balance between the development of the individual and the responsibility towards community, is imperative. The type of knight in Erec, written in the 12th century, was not able to maintain this balance, so he needed to face a number of adventures. In the end, thanks to the virtues he has, he has overcome the difficulties he has encountered and proved his reputation, thereby ensured the continuity of his title. Thus, as an ideal knight useful to the people, he gained the pleasure of court and god. The Book of Dede Korkut, which consists of twelve stories, is a verbal tradition product that provides information on various topics ranging from the lifestyles of the Oghuz to their belief and is estimated to have been written in the second half of the 15th century. The alp character in the work has been thrown into heroism as a result of the injustices he has encountered. By passing through various tests Alp has acquired a reputable place in the society and gained his name, thanks to his virtues. In this study, the knight and alp in the mentioned works will be compared and the achievements they have obtained with their virtues will be evaluated.
