Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to study the concept and uses of book in Mine Soysal’s “Eyvah Kitap”, a work of children’s literature work, formally and contextually based upon the principles and methods of corpus linguistics and by this way to evaluate it in a qualitative and quantitative way. In the study in which the descriptive survey model is used, the linguistic methods were used to collect the data to enable the formal procedure. This work was firstly put in a form in which it could be tagged and marked by means of special software in computer environment and witness sentences, in which there are concept of book, were composed as lexical morpheme, noun phrase, verb, auxiliary verb, adverb, adjective and notes sections. After the composition, with the help of data formed in the notes section which makes content analysis possible, by way of witnessing, evaluation of the work was completed by creating topics as “What are the Familial, Environmental factors and the factors that develop out of and the Book content?”. In the formal analyses, intensity/frequency of book and book related uses were observed as: In this work, which consists of 5828 different word-entries and 16267 total words, the first 3 words that were used most frequently, in co-occurrence or independently, with the word book were grammatical uses such as a: (339), many/much: (322) and too: (208) and this grammatical uses were followed by the word book: (190). When the different uses (lexical morphemes) of the word book are added to this number (book (accusative case), books (accusative case, plural), books, etc.), a total of 424 uses are found. When these uses are proportioned to the total vocabulary (16267), a rate of 3.83% is reached. In the sum of the first 10 uses (1913), a high rate (= 22.11%) is observed for the word book (423). In the contextual analysis, it has been observed that the students' thoughts about books and their wishes, and the situations they are in should be paid attention in this process.
