Abstract

The aim of the research is scanning visual reading learning outcomes in 2018 Turkish Curriculum of 5th grades. Then identify the relation betweeen the stated visual types of materials and how it is corralated and the main reason is improving an affective usage suggustions to the operators. With the help of scanning the documents, it is determined the situation of 5th grade visual reading learning outcomes in Secondary School 5th grade Turkish textbook of MEB. Descriptive analysis technique is used in “Types of visual materials determination form.”At the end of the research, it is detected that visual reading and visual presentation learning fields are not independent skill but they are related to learning outcomes. Three of the visual reading outcomes in the cirruculum of 5th grade are relevant to chart, table picture and comics. Other two outcomes are not related to specific visual material but they are named visuals for general usage. There are eleven different visual materials such as photo, comic, drawing, illustration, poster, map, table, digital drawing, picture, symbol and sketch in the activities and they are mostly related to writing skill. There is no visual materials relevant to auditory skill. Although there is no relation between visual literacy outcomes and speaking skills, there are six visual materials related to speaking skills. We can see the concordance between cirruculum and activities in reading skills view.v Visual materials used in visual literacy outcomes and activities are coherant as a type. Table, picture and comics take place in visual literacy outcomes but charts are not used in these activities. Also although they are not written in visual literacy materials, sketch, symbol, digital drawing, map, poster, illustration, drawing and photo are used in the activities.
