Abstract

AbstractSince the emergence of 20th century, the importance of humand body in the evolution of language has been noticed, and some theories have been developed accordingly. Subsequent to 1980s, considerably more emphasis has been attributed to human body, a part of space and construer of time. Cognitive linguistics tries to understand body, body parts, perception, attention, senses, position and movement of objects making use of concrete facts. From this angle, there exists a cole link between language and sensoriomotor features. The use of names for body parts in formulaic language in Turkish was examined by many researchers. However, a relationship between body parts and cognitive linguistics was not dwellt on in those studies. Some of these body parts and organs are heart, liver, kidney, stomach, foot, hand, arm, head,breast, shoulder, brain, eye, ear, nose, face, eyebrow, lip. What is the rate and frequency of these body parts and organs in Turkey Turkish idioms? The related body-part words will be analyzed through Turkish Language Institute located on www.tdk.gov.tr website, which contains Updated Turkish Dictionary. After the classification of body-part words, the place of the word eye in communication will be examined in Turkey Turkish, and its priority and defining feature will be handled from the perspective of face theories.
