USE OF IDIOMS AND PROVERBS IN TEACHING TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE THROUGH EMOJIS

Abstract

It is known that technology continues to increase its influence in the vast majority of life practices in the world that lives the information and information age. It is seen that the use of technology has become widespread in teaching the language, which is the most powerful communication tool. For this reason, even though the technological developments that contribute to the learning of the language progress within themselves, the contribution of this progress to the course teachers and transferring this contribution to the classroom environment constitute one of the main responsibilities of the course teachers. This responsibility will contribute to better and more functional teaching of Turkish. In this context, the use of emojis, which have started to take an important place in our daily life, in teaching the proverbs and idioms that Turkish has, will facilitate the expression of idioms and proverbs, and also it will bring a different perspective to the teaching and the use of Turkish. In this study, an experimental study, one of the quantitative research patterns, was used. The study group of the research consists of B2 group students who learn Turkish as a foreign language. The multiple choice tests prepared as a data collection tool and emojis determined in accordance with the Turkish idioms and proverbs were used. In the study, which was designed with a control-group post-test pattern, the multiple choice tests developed by the researchers were applied to the students as post-test. The data analysis was performed with the statistical package program (SPSS for 22 Windows) and interpreted descriptively. As a result of the study, the fact that the test results showed a significant difference in favor of the participants in the experimental group shows that teaching idioms and proverbs through emojis is more successful than classical methods.
