The lexicography is considered as the most important field of applied linguistics. It is a linguistic speciality inherited from the Arab linguists who excelled in this domain and the greatest achievement in it was Kitab al-'Ayn by Al-Khalil ibn Ahmad al-Farahidi. Then, the lexicography persisted among the public and the private and works like Mu'jam al-Buldān (Dictionary of Countries) by Yakut al Hamawi and mu'jam al hayawan (the dictionary of animals) appeared.With the development of applied linguistics, the lexicology started to be independent .At the same time, toponymy had emerged as a separate science. It studies the names of places and geographic regions, since each area has a noun that is related to its history, terrains, language, culture and events which took place in it and which identify the name of this geographic area and reflect its entity.In order to go further in this topic I entitled my reserch is the role of historical toponymic dictionairies in preserving heritage .What is its relation ship with oter sciences ?What is the role of historical toponymic dictionaries in preserving history and heritage ?
