Abstract

TRANSLATOR'S HABITUS AS A PRODUCTION OF PERSONAL HISTORY
To be seen as an interdependent discipline and to take its place in social sciences, Translation Studies emphasized translation product as a research object which can be analyzed and explained academically. Systemic and target-oriented paradigm assess target text in its socio-cultural context and analyzed translators’ decisions and the factors which affect these decisions methodologically. However, considering translator as an individual has gained more importance thanks to translation sociology. The Bourdieusian term “habitus” has focused the personal history of translator and enabled researches which take translator as a subject in terms of her/his relations with society. This article aims to show the contributions of Bourdieusian habitus to Translation Studies and analyze the role of Kıymet Erzincan Kına in her translation of Alice in the Wonderland/Throught the Looking Glass with the help of “habitus”.
