Abstract


THE INVESTIGATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LISTENING COMPREHENSION SKILLS AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC LEVELS AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
Individuals acquire listening skill with the help of their social environments, and develop this through a systematic instruction process at school period. In this process starting with listening and ending with understanding, various factors affect listening. Considering the process related to the acquisition and development of listening skill, it is possible to claim that one of these factors affecting listening is the social environments in which individuals are raised. The purpose of the present research is investigating the relationship between listening comprehension skills and socio-economic levels among secondary school students. The present research adopted descriptive survey model. Because there are more than variable within the context, relational survey model is required to investigate the relationships between these variables. In order to collect data related to the research, socio-economic level defining form and listening comprehension scale were used. According to the findings obtained in the present research, listening comprehension skills of female students are significantly higher than the male students, parents’ educational levels affect listening comprehension skill, and family income level and students’ listening comprehension skills are related.
