VIEWS AND EVALUATIONS OF PROSPECTIVE TURKISH TEACHERS AND PRACTICE TEACHERS ON TEACHING PRACTICUM

Abstract

Teaching practicum, one of the most important fields in teacher education and always considered as remarkable debate, has been the focus of several studies. Teaching practicum, which provides to realize an indispensable component of student, teacher, curricullum and learning in real teaching atmosphere, is an important chance before prospective teachers graduate. Even though teaching practicum is a chance, the studies in this field are limited. The purpose of this study is to determine the perspectives of student teachers about teaching practicum, their weak and strong sides, and to compare the results with the perspectives of practice teacher about student teachers weak and strong sides of their teaching in practicum. The participants of this study are 22 student teachers in Turkish Teaching Departments of both Çukurova University and Hakkari University in 2015-2016 academic year. In this study, a mixed model is used in order to get qualitative and quantitative data, and both student teachers and practice teachers were given teaching practice evaluation form and a questionnaire to evaluate the Teaching Practice experience from various aspects. As a result of the analysis of their reports and responses given in the evaluation form questionnaire, the problems that they pointed out have been categorized from various aspects, and possible solutions to these problems have been sought and presented. In the results of the study, it is found that the perpectives of student teachers and practice teachers differ in terms of classroom management, communication, and evaluation and keeping records.
