Abstract

Error Analysis is one of the important subjects of study in the field of teaching foreign language. In this study, with the aim of revealing new findings that contribute to teaching Turkish as a foreign language, whether “ol-du+personal ending” or “substantive/adjective+(y)DI+personal ending” usage of learners of Turkish as a Foreign Language is discussed within the frame of error analysis. In order to find errors in usage of “ol-du+personal ending” or “substantive/adjective+(y)DI+personal ending”, writing papers of 100 preparatory class students of Turkish are examined. Furthermore, Perception test is applied to 64 students to find errors in perceptual trait. Depending on findings of studies carried out, it is observed that students prefer “ol-” verb (ol-du+personal ending) instead of copula (substantive/adjective+(y)DI+personal ending). Errors in generative trait are more than error rate in perception test. In this context, it is concluded that someone preparing course materials about “ol-du+personal ending” or “substantive/adjective+(y)DI+personal ending” should give explanation about semantic and functional difference; they should also give importance to activities that enable correct and fluent production grammatically in writing and speaking studies.
