Abstract

In this study, the challenges encountered in foreign language education in Turkish context and instructors’ suggestions for overcoming the challenges were investigated. For this, the researcher collected qualitative data through open-ended questions. The participants of the study included 15 instructors working at the same university during the academic year of 2016-2017. The qualitative analysis of the collected data suggested that the challenges encountered fall in three main categories: external factors, student-related factors, and teacher-related factors. Likewise, their suggestions for a more effective foreign language education pointed to the improvement of the challenges in these categories.
