Abstract

One of the leading factors of the development in civilization is the search for originality. In the literature and the art this search has been bringing the newness and competiton. As a result of this inquiry, Muhammad b. Yahya Sibak Fattahi (d. 1448), Persian poet, had been one of those who succeeded to leave behind permanent traces in literature not only in his own but also many others. Fattahi who not only left behind many unique works in shape and content but also got many followers especially by Husn u Dil (Beauty and Heart), an allegoric work, and Shabistan-i Khayal, (The bedroom of imagination), a work based on the word-play and the intrigues of imagination in many cultures, Persian, Turkish and Hindu. His works, especially those two left long lasting reflections on the classical Turkish literature. They have been not only translated into Turkish but also commentaries and the parallels have been created on them. Among those who composed the parallels to Shabistan-i Khayal has been Yusufi, a 17th century Turkish poet. Although Fattahi penned his work only in Persian and as a mixture of poetry and prose, Yusufi answered him by three leading languages of Islamic world, Arabic, Persian and Turkish only in poetry. By this, although he adopted Fattahi’s work in shape, he aimed at creating a work richer in the content. The aim of this paper is to study the structure of Shabistan-i Khayal style on which only a few work has been done. First, we will investigate Yusufi’s life and works on whom very little is known. And then we will analyze the structure of Shabistan-i Khayal style and its traces on Turkish literature. Finally, we will try to avaluate Yusufi’s work on this regard.
