Abstract

The primary stress phoneme carries the meaning meant by the speaker, if it is not heard by the non-native learners of English on the related word in sentences, the result is the misperception of speech that is converted into foreign accented perception that leads to build a foreign accented speech. In order to measure the audition of the primary stress as a problem for Turkish English majors in complex sentences, 41 participants with pre-intermediate background took part as subjects in a research at one of the private universities in Ankara. In the pretest the students were made to listen to 12 complex sentences. Pretest and posttests descriptive statistics have been used, and it has been discovered that the mean score of the posttest came up to be %75 while pre-test was % 63 with a percentage of ascent as % 12.
