Abstract

The rapidly developing educational technologies and especially the educational environments that are rendered technological through the implementation of the “FATIH Project” made it necessary to develop new materials in Turkish language education. The pre-service Turkish language teachers should possess the knowledge and develop adequate materials about these technologies in order to benefit from the opportunities provided by the new technologies. The present study, aimed to measure the knowledge and proficiency levels of pre-service Turkish language teachers on developing technologies, the FATIH project and computer-aided material development, was designed as qualitative research, and a Likert type questionnaire and face-to-face interview technique were used for data collection. The data collected from the study group that included 216 students attending the Department of Turkish Language Education at Ahmet Kelesoglu Faculty of Education in Necmettin Erbakan University, were examined and evaluated. It was concluded that the students did not possess adequate knowledge on computer aided educational materials and the FATIH project. Furthermore, face-to-face interviews conducted with the students, who responded positively to the questionnaire, indicated incorrect responses that arose from the insufficient information on the relevant concepts. As a result, it was established that pre-service Turkish language teachers, who are expected to use the FATIH Project in the future, were incompetent in developing computer aided materials that could be utilized within the project and in efficient use of the devices within the scope of the FATIH Project.
