Abstract

After the Turks accepted Islam, they abandoned the Uighur alphabet they used until then and began to use Arabic letters. This transition has been a long, unfulfilled process. Although the Arabic letters have been used for a very long time, they have not fully adapted to the language structure and especially education and spelling problems have continued. From the Tanzimat, debates began on the alphabet and continued until 1928, when the letter reform was made.Following the reform of the letter, a great literacy mobilization began and both the new letters were taught to people from all walks of life and a great progress was made in the rate of literacy.All in Konya in Turkey as well as in 1928 began a major training activities. This activity has spread the districts and villages in the center. These studies were carried out with the opened courses. These courses include; from teachers and civil servants to people who had never been educated until then. From the deputies to the most important authors, everyone contributed to this educational campaign.These courses have been opened by the Ministry of National Education to a great extent, but institutions such as the People's Party and the Turkish Nation have also supported these activities within the framework of their facilities
