Abstract

In foreign language teachign and teaching Turkish as a foreign language, vocabulary is matter of cruciality. To be able to enlarge learner’s vocabulary, different methods and techniques are implemented to teaching. Various teaching practices are upheld for different word forms. Naturally, it is mainly aimed that acqusition and continuing development take place. In this study, the usage of moving pictures (GIF) on computer, smart phone and tablet, which emerged with the optimized technology, was proposed in relation to teaching Turkish as a foreign language. In this proposal, the basic level Turkish learners are aimed to teach verbs with GIF implemented activities which are considered as functioning. This function refers to the contribution of verb’s memorability, opportunity of implementing a practical technique and managing the lesson time. Selection of moving pictures is related to difficulty of teaching verbs. The material is considered as functional especially for basic level learners. In other words, basic level learners need embodiment more than higher levels. Within the context, it is mentioned that the structure, feature and benefits of possible functions in lesson implementation of moving pictures are useful to various researchers favouring visuals. With this technique, an increase in diversity of materials is expected. Especially, this technique is considered as a comfortable option with familiar material in learning process of learners under middle age.
