THE EFFECT OF THE STORYBIRD APPLICATION ON 5TH GRADE STUDENTS' CREATİVE WRITING SKILLS AND ATTITUDES TOWARDS WRITING

Abstract

In this study, a sample application has been performed for effective use of instructional technologies in Turkish courses. Problem Statement of the research has been established in the form of “What is the effect of the Storybird (Web 2.0) application in instructional technologies on 5th grade students' creative writing skills and attitudes towards writing. In this study, it is aimed to research the effect of Storybird application, an instructional technology within the scope of Turkish course, on 5th grade students' attitudes towards creative writing skill and writing. In order to achieve this basic goal, the working group of the research is the group of 44 students in two different branches of 5th grade of Hasan Şadoğlu Secondary School located in Province of Istanbul, District of Maltepe. The research has been carried out by using the explanatory sequential design from mixed method design in which the quantitative and qualitative methods related to the same phenomenon are used together. The quantitative phase of the study was designed in the quasi-experimental desing with pre-test and post-test control group; at the qualitative phase, the students' opinions in the experimental group about the creative writing works carried out with “The Student Interview Form for Creative Writing Works with Storybird Application” prepared by the researcher were taken. At the end of the 13-week application process, Storybird application, an instructional technology, has increased Creative Writing Skills of the 5th grade students (t=-3,691, p=0,000<0,05) and it was observed that the students have developed a positive attitude towards writing and also outputs of the research were reinforced with the students' opinions. Accordingly, it is recommended that instructional technologies should be extendedly used in the development of creative writing skills in Turkish courses.
