When the relevant literature is reviewed, it is seen that little research has been conducted on idioms and proverbs found in textbooks used to teach Turkish to foreigners. In teaching idioms and proverbs, generally texts have been used. The use of songs in teaching idioms and proverbs seems to be of great importance for students to repeat, hear and recall them. In this connection, the current study aims to investigate Tarkan’s songs that can be used as a tool to teach Turkish idioms and proverbs. The study employed the document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods. A total of eighty one songs from Tarkan’s eight albums were listened, transcribed and investigated. The idioms and proverbs found in these songs were checked from the “Idioms and Proverbs Dictionary” of Turkish Language Society separately by two researchers twice to establish the reliability and validity of the analysis. A total of 406 idioms were detected in the eight albums of Tarkan. The album in which the highest number of idioms is found is “Metamorfoz”. In this album, a total of 111 idioms are used. On the other hand, a total of 22 proverbs were detected in the eight albums of Tarkan. Once more, the album “Metamorfoz” was found to include the highest number of proverbs (11 proverbs). As a result, it was concluded that the use of many albums of Tarkan particularly the album “Metamorfoz” can be highly effective in teaching Turkish idioms and proverbs and that through songs, idioms and proverbs can be taught in an enjoyable manner.},author={Betül KERAY DİNÇEL-& Hilmi SAVUR},year={2019},journal={International Journal of Language Academy}}
