ON THE RE-MEANİNG OF AZMAN IN KUL TIGIN INSCRIPTION

Abstract

The names of colors are important in the framework of showing the perception of the world of natives and creating of language’s vocabularies. When natives call colors they get inspired from the natüre and what they get in interaction. Orkhon Inscription which was erected in eighth century includes some colors names like ak, kara, al, kök, sarıg, yaşıl and it shows even at that time Tukic language was progressed by colors’ names. On this reason, ınscriptions are important to show the colors’ names of era. On the other hand there are some names which are discussed whether they are colors’ name sor not. One of these words is azman. This Word is used twice in inscriptions and each time it used in front of at (horse). In this work az which is accepted it has relation with azman is examined to find their relation. This word’s meaning –az- is given mustela erminea, ermin in dictioniories. By the time, Turkish people are inspired from this animal and they refer az as yellow so it is possible to see in some dictioniries az (s>z) as yellow color. The word of azman is thought it is related with az. In this essay, we tried to show there is not only one “azman” with one meaning there are different meanings of azman but only one of them which refers color is used in Orkhon Inscriptions.
