Abstract

Languages are constantly evolving. Therefore, some old words are out of use and new words are added instead. However, the words and verbs used in ancient times can continue to use in various ways. Being aware of this and understanding the language of old texts will make it easier for us to understand today's languages. In this sense, verbs play an important role in revealing the richness of a language. We are aware of this and we have dealt with Ali Şîr Nevâî's Muhakemetü’l-Lügateyn which is very important for our language. Nevâî mentioned in this work argada-, avun-, aylan- (eylen-), çaykal-, divdeşi-, iglen-, igren-, irik-, işen-, kımsan-, kına-, kısta-, kozgal-, savrul- In order to determine whether the verbs still exist or have been used in different meanings, we have scanned approximately 80 works written in various stages of Turkish language (including master's and doctoral theses, published works and articles) and compiled the information we obtained. The argadamak, divdeşimek and kımsanmak verbs in the work did not come across in the works scanned. However, this does not mean that the verbs were not used at that time. Because the verbs and words needed in the works are selected and used. Other verbs have been identified in the works we have examined. In determining the verbs in the texts we searched in our study, not only the meaning of the word in Muhakemetü’l-Lügateyn, but also words with different meaning and sound changes were taken into consideration.
