Abstract
Mektup romanlarda bir anlatım tekniği ve aracı olmak üzere iki biçimde kullanılmaktadır. Bir anlatım tekniği olarak kullanıldığı metinlerde eser karşılıklı yazılmış mektuplardan oluşur. Özellikle kadınlar arasında yazılan mektuplardan meydana gelen bu romanlar ele alınıp incelenmiş ve mektubun sağladığı mahremiyetle birlikte kadınlar için bir itiraf alanına dönüştüğü üzerinde durulmuştur. Bu çalışmada diğer araştırmalardan farklı olarak mektubun bir anlatım aracı olarak kullanıldığı romanlar üzerinde durulacaktır. Bu amaçla Tanzimat dönemine ait romanlar seçilmiş ve bu metinlerde mektubun bir anlatım aracı olarak kendini nasıl gösterdiği ve ne gibi işlevler üstlendiği belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Metinler ele alınırken malzemenin kendisinden yola çıkılarak ve onun elverdiği ölçüde işlevi esas alınarak bir sınıflamaya gidilmiş ve metinler bu sınıflamaya uygun olarak değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır.

Abstract
Letters are used as both a literary form and device in novels. In the Works where they are used as a form, the text is comprised of letters, exchanged back and forth. Thus far, epistolary novels, especially the ones which consist of letters between women, have been discussed and analysed, also it has been indicated the private nature of the letters made them an area of confession for the said women. In this study, differing from others, the novels using letters as a literary device are examined. For this study, differing from others, the novels using letters as a literary device are examined. For this purpose, the novels from Tanzimat era have been selected and studied to understand how the letters reveal themselves as narrative devices and their different roles. While they were studied, the novels themselves have been considered as the starting point. A categorisation based on the functions of the letters have been made and the novels are analysed in line of these categories
