Abstract

Abstract

Many researchers in Algerian sociolinguistics have recently been interested in the question of the family transmission of languages in the family environment. The aim is to shed light on the relationship between family languages and their distribution in intrafamily communication. The interest in studying the family's role in the linguistic question stems from its importance in the constitution of society. The family is forever represented as the core of society. This article will try to highlight the role of mothers, in particular, in the process of transmission/acquisition of French in the Algerian family environment. By the way, we are interested in the language choices that mothers make in favor of passing on the French language to their children. Do Algerian families have family language policies? Are mothers more likely to transmit French to their children than fathers? What does this language mean to them? These are the issues around which we organize our analysis. Thus, we postulate the hypothesis that the openness of families and Algerian mothers worldwide through social networks and the different types of new technologies offer them new language choices. This work is based on a corpus collected through a questionnaire administered and distributed to approximately 100 mothers in the Tlemcen area. In fact, this research's main objective is to highlight the role of mothers in family language policies and consequently in the process of transmitting French.
