Abstract

In this article it has been focused on mythology and identity of breath and the perception of breath in different cultures and the perspectivs of the religions have put forth. It has been thought that breath, available in all areas of life and being a cyclical element which provide begining, permanence and ending of life, is a unique power which spirit up the body when it enters and disconnect body and soul when it leaves from the body . The breath, the source of life and beginning in the mythological or religious texts, has been studied as an occurence which is alive, fluent and run off firstly from God to human or from God to the nature and continue its cyclical execution turning to the centre back that is started.In this study, general presentation of breath and etymological analysis of the word will be done, and the issue of breath will be searched in the archaic civilizations and in Turkish Culture; the cyclical path of breath will be followed in the religious, sufistic and literary texts and in the end it will be emphasized on the cylclical function of this phenomenon. The it will be questioned whether the breath has cyclical function at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the life or not. And if it has, the answers will be searched for the question 'how' with examples.
