THE RELATİONSHİP BETWEEN SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' LİSTENİNG COMPREHENSİON LEVELS AND THEİR ACADEMİC ACHİEVEMENTS


The aim of the research is examining the relation between the level of understanding of what they listen and their academic success and what rate of the level of understanding what they listen predicts the secondary school students’ academic success. This research is a relational search model a descriptive work. While all of the students attending in secondary schools in Kırşehir province creates the universe of the research, in total 444 students attending in 7 official school in Kırşehir province creates the researh sample. Maximum diversity method from purposeful samplişng types has been adopted and taking into consideration the representation ability of the universe,the students in different socio economic background have been included into the research. As a data collection tool ‘Listening Test 1’ and ‘Listening Test 2’ have been used by the researcher by getting opinions of the experts and doing necessary item analysis. In determining the academic achievement points of te students in Turkish, mathematics, science and technology, social sciences, culture of religion and English lessons 2016-2017 educational terms TEOG 1 and 2 exam points have been used. In the work the analysis of the datafor examining the relation between the level of understanding of what students listen Pearson Moments and Correlation coefficient Technique have been used. Foır examining the predictive power of the level of understanding what students listen, simple linear regression analysis technique has been used. In solution of data spss 21.0 statistical package program has been used. In the end of the work, ıt is-has been arrived at the conclusion that there is high positive relations between the academic success in Turkish, mathematics, science and technology, social sciences, culture of religion and English lessons and the arithmetic mean of the listening tests. Also it has been understood that listening comprehension skill which is is a predictive variable is an important predictor of the academic success.
