THE EXAMINATION OF REFIK HALID KARAY’S STORIES NAMED “TEAR” AND “THE DOG” IN TERMS OF VALUES EDUCATION


In this study, Refik Halid Karay’s stories named “Tear” and “The Dog” have been examined whether they contain values which are designated according to curriculum of Turkish Language Education, Social Science, and Culture of Religion and Knowledge of Ethics, and Values Education Directive, and List of Value Concept formed by provincial directorate of national education. The technique of document review, which is a method of qualitative research designed in the pattern of the integrated mono case, has been used in the form of the case study. The role of literary works is significant in the process of values education because there is a tight bond between literature and education. Literature is more appealing to the human’s emotional world besides its cognitive world. In the study, it has been derived from the contribution of literature to the development of emotional intelligence. It has been determined with which values Refik Halid Karay’s stories knitted. It has been deemed as a problem of how these values are to be used in education, and how these values can be conveyed to students. The starting point of this study is the aim of creating a powerful effect on students’ emotional world. Refik Halid Karay’s book, Gurbet Hikâyeleri, which has been used in this study had obtained from Inkilap Publishing Firm. Because the Publishing Firm has used the name of the author as Refik Halid Karay, therefore, the name of the author was not written as Refik Halit Karay, and it has been preserved as the same. The stories which name “Tear”, and “The Dog” in the book have been read comprehensively, and values that the stories contain have been classified regarding the method of profiling. In this study, it has been explained what the term of value, and what its importance is before the information has been given about the method of the study, and it has been presented with which sentences values, which have been determined, have been conveyed. Lastly, in this study, suggestions have been included.
