In teaching Turkish, the jokes of Nasreddin Hodja which have been compiled and put down on paper can be used, besides it is possible to benefit from their form which is poetic and written by a poet apart from their usual form.In this research, the five texts texts entitled which were selected among Nasreddin Hodja’s jokes written in verse form by Orhan Veli, were evaluated in terms of their usability in Turkish course books of secondary school. Considering this opinion, the purpose of this research is to reveal how to use Nasreddin Hodja jokes written in verse form by Orhan Veli as source texts for Turkish lessons in terms theme-subject matter, language skills, grammar, and basic skills. Jokes written in verse were evaluated in terms of theme-subject matter, learning domains of reading, speaking and writing and attainments of these domains, grammar topics, vocabulary enrichment and class level, and how these texts might be used as source texts for Turkish course books was tried to be revealed. It has been determined that the examined jokes contribute to accomplishing reading, speaking and writing skills and the achievements related to these skills, might develop vocabulary and comprehension of various grammar topics. Consequently, it is possible to use these texts in an effective and productive way in both accomplishing the objectives of Turkish lesson by the help of their short, pure structures, humorous aspects, vocabulary and transferring our culture to next generations.
