First reading and writing studies started with sound based sentence method. In the sound based sentence method, / sound is introduced after “e” sound. The appropriateness and effectiveness of beginning with closed syllable e/ sound or instead open syllable “/e” sound in the process of constructing syllable was tried to be put forward in this qualitative research study. In Uşak, in two different schools in different classes, the process of syllable construction has been begun with /e sound. Just after introducing all sounds open syllables are given. In two different classes of the same schools, teachers introduced closed syllables just after manifesting all sounds as the program suggests. Opinions of teachers on duty were also taken about the process. The students of the classes in which implementation of the method of exposing students to open syllables just after introducing all sounds, have begun to read and write. Students did not make any spelling error while reading aloud. It was discovered that students who grasped open syllables also grasped closed syllables quickly. It was detected that they were making correct syllabification while they were reading aloud. However, spelling errors, wrong syllabification, the problems of word repetition, falling in the syllabuses and adding syllables were identified in the classes in which writing process has been started with closed syllable.},author={Murat BAŞAR-, Cihangir DOĞAN, Nurcan ŞENER, Mehmet KARASU & Ramazan YURTTAŞ},year={2015},journal={International Journal of Language Academy}}
