The biggest problem of Turkish language in recent years is the foreign words it has acquired as a result of this inevitable exchange process. The Turkish Language Association (TDK) founded by Atatürk on July 12, 1932, is a national organization. “Protecting and improving the Turkish language from foreign influences” is an important task that TDK tries to fulfil. In order to fulfil this duty, TDK established the commission of foreign words corresponds in 1993. This Commission proposes Turkish equivalents to foreign words or produces a new word. The Commission proposes Turkish equivalents for foreign words such as selfie, biennial, free shop, by-pass, sit-com, chat, link, peeling, joystick, autism without spreading to the masses of people in our most remote villages, and more importantly, without entering the culture and expression of our culture. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the words suggested by TDK as Turkish equivalents to foreign words are known by high school students. For this purpose, a questionnaire was prepared containing the 100 most used words in daily life from 1960 words in the Turkish Provisions Guide to Foreign Words on TDK web page. The questionnaire was applied to 352 high school students. The collected data were analyzed by percentage (%) and frequency (f) analysis. According to the findings of the research, while some equivalents for words like dietician, deep freeze, puzzle, sticker and selfie are known by high school students, some equivalents like sensor, peeling, program, link, inflation are unknown.},author={Cemil ŞAHİN},year={2020},journal={International Journal of Language Academy}}
