THE TEACHERS’ VIEWS ON THE TURKISH LESSON TEACHING PROGRAM FOR THE FIRST GRADERS AND THE ADJACENT AS WELL AS ITALIC HANDWRITING

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the teachers’ views on the Turkish lesson teaching program and the practices about adjacent italic handwriting for the first graders. A two-phase questionnaire form developed by the authors has been used as a means to collect data in the study. The first part of the questionnaire form contain some individual information about the teachers and a five-scale Likert type assessment tool developed by the authors and consisting 16 articles has been used in the second part of the study. The respondents’ views have been assessed in terms of the variables of their gender, age, civil service seniority, the programmes from which they have graduated and the branch. The study in descriptive research model has been carried out in a quantitative method and it has been conducted in accordance with the maximum variation sampling. The study group comprises 299 first-grade teachers working in 88 primary schools in five different districts (Mezitli, Yenişehir, Toroslar, Akdeniz, Erdemli) of the Mersin province. In the analysis of the data, “SPSS For Windows 20” package program has been used. While analyzing the data, the frequency, percentage and arithmetic mean calculations have been made as the descriptive statistical techniques. As for the parametric tests, the t-test and analysis of variance have been used. Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of the study is 0,748. According to the results of the study, the first-grade teachers have marked the Agree option as regards the effectiveness and efficiency of the Turkish lesson teaching program They have marked the Undecided option as regards the effectiveness and efficiency of the adjacent and italic handwriting application which is widely applied in the first grade Turkish lesson teaching program. In addition, concerning the first grade Turkish lesson teaching program, no statistically significant difference has been found in terms of such deviations as the gender, age, seniority in the civil service, the number of students and the faculty from which they have graduated and the same goes for the adjacent and italic handwriting in terms of such variations as the gender, age, seniority in the civil service, and the programmes from which they have graduated. However, there is a statistically significant difference as regards the views on the adjacent and italic handwriting in terms of the variation of the number of students.
