Abstract

Former translation discussions related to the translation of the Holy books were mostly restricted to the language and grammatical level. What is determinant for a translation theory today are the answers to the questions regarding the social impact rather than the linguistic based translation. It is obvious that strategies in the translation of the Holy book which were deemed to be anomalous and incorrect turned out to be effective for the spread of the religion as well as its first occurrence. Translation theories prove that the impacts of translations on societies are determinant to evaluate the success of the translation. Hermeneutic theories show that understanding a text is possible as a result of the reader-text relationship as well as understanding the author’s intention. Inferences of the target reader about their past experiences as well as the author’s intention are also determinant to form a meaning. The success of the translations of the holy book is proportional to the functional of the translation. The function of the translation can be the reflection of the intention of the holy book and its purpose. While Koran is being translated, the translational accumulation of knowledge having been collected for thousand years now and the reference to the knowledge of translation theories can be said to be of importance. In this way, Koran can be translated by making it clear to the reader and making it influential for the society. The translation of the impact of its message on souls is also important.
