Abstract

Translation has two sides. As you know, you can translate a sentence or text from the foreign language into the native language, conversely, from native language to foreign language. But when translating, there are differences between the two. While translated from foreign language into native language, the learner experiences too little cognitive process and spends less energy; when translating from native language to foreign language, the learner spends more mental power and in this way the teacher could get too much gain here. In this context, the contribution of translation from native language to target language for teaching and learning foreign languages was examined in the present study based on the students' opinions on the contribution of translation to foreign language learning. The document analysis was performed in this work. At the end of the semester, the opinions of the 30 students about the contribution of the translation to the extension of their German language skills were written and evaluated. As a result of the observation and evaluation it was found that the students can get the opportunity to use the already learned linguistic structures when translating native language into the target language, translation was contributed to the word teaching, to motivate, to self-evaluation. And in addition, the translation takes over the task feedback and correction. Through translation, the students become aware of their language by consciously using the structure.
