VALUES EDUCATION IN KARAGÖZ TEXTS IN TURKISH COURSE BOOKS


The education of values, which has frequently been on the agenda in recent years, is a concept in which studies on education are intensified. Karagöz texts, which are an important part of our culture, have many values in this direction and are conveyed to us. In this study, the values in Karagöz texts in Turkish textbooks are focused. The aim of the study is to examine the Karagöz shadow plays determined by the purposeful sampling method in terms of values of justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism and benevolence. In addition, in Turkish teaching, to determine the frequency and percentage distributions of these texts in the value transfer. Document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. As a data collection tool, the “Values Analysis Form”, which was created based on the values given in the Turkish Ministry of National Education 2019 Turkish Curriculum, was used. “Values Review Form” has been applied to shadow play texts, values have been determined in this way and its use as a teaching element has been exemplified. Values not in the form are not included in the research. Percentage and frequency were used in the analysis of the data. The sample of the research consists of 17 Karagöz shadow play texts in 5, 6, 7 and 8th grade Turkish textbooks used in the academic year of 1990-2014. It was observed that Karagöz texts had the most love and respect values in terms of frequency and percentage. As a result of the research, it has been determined that Karagöz texts mostly reflect the values included in the root values in the curriculum.
